Frequently Asked Questions about SlashRoot.Org Open Source Software Resource Forum

Frequently asked questions about the SlashRoot.Org Open Source Software (OSS) Resource Forum.
Does it cost to join SlashRoot.Org Open Source Resource Forum?:
No. There are no joining fees, or any hidden fees of any kind. This is a community service resource forum, a place for Open Source supporters to hang out, brainstorm, and just have fun.
How is this site supported?:
Well, I truly believe in this cause, so I am glad to fund this initiative out of my personal resources. Currently, this site's resource requirements are more or less minimal, but if it grows way out of my leage, we will look into renting some banner space real estate to sponsors, etc. If some magical re-alignment of heavenly stars turns this site into a super busy site, and make it generate revenue (advertising, whatever...) that exceeds its operating costs, every single penny so generated will be poured back into making this site better.
Wow! That Sounds great. How can I help?:
Here are a few ways in which you could help make this Open Source Resource Forum even better even better:
  • Submit news/articles related to Open Source Initiative.
  • Participate responsibly.
  • Invite others to join.
  • Email us. if someone has published any inappropriate content at this forum.
  • Suggest on-topic links for possible inclusion in listing here.
What is this site running on?:
This site has been created with 100% Open Source components. The server hardware is truly state of the art. It is being hosted -only temporarily -on a WinTel rack mount server. My OpenBSD box is currently taken off line for major system upgrade. As soon as that server is back in operation, this site will be hosted on an OpenBSD server. Kindly bear with us for this temporary annoyance of this site being served up off a WinTel box. I know how politically incorrect that is. :( Trust me, I am doing every thing I can to move this site over to my souped up BSD box...
I own/administer an Open Source Site/Forum. How do I add my listing?:
Join this forum, create your listing by adding an "Organizaton" to your folder, and submit it for publication. It is that simple! One of our Reviewers may follow up with you for any verification, and then let you know if your listing was approved for inclusion in this directory.

For information on publishing at this site, please refer to the documents listed further down.

What type of content is acceptable at this site?:
Any content published at this site must meet the the following criteria:
  • It must be Open Source related.
  • No Adult content. No exceptions.
  • It must meet our (highly unscientific) approval process. ;)
How long will it take for you to process a submission?:
We carefully review every submission. Depending on the number of new requests in the pending queue, it may take between 24 hours to 72 hours. Currently, we expect the turn around time to be one business day.
How long will my link/listing/article remain listed here?:
If your content meets our criteria, it would remain listed as long as you want.
By listing a site/resource in this directory, do you endorse such entities?:
No. By accepting a link or an article for inclusion at this site, all we are saying is: This site/article seems to be nice, and may be of interest to the members of this forum.
Why are you so picky when it comes to selecting a link/article/news for listing at this site?:
For one simple reason. What is the point in becoming yet another DUD (Dumpsite of Useless Data)?
What if I think my submission did not deserve to be deemed "unacceptable" for this forum?:
Email us. Even though there is no formal appeal/review process, and in spite of the fact that we rarely reverse such decisions, we will be glad to have a second look. Please be advised that we reserve all rights to decline any and all submissions -with or without a cause.
What if I need help?:
Read the Getting Started, document first. Help on using Structured Text is available here. Publishing Guidelines are available here. if you are still lost, Email us.

Can I submit my content in Spanish, Russian, Sanskrit, Chinese, Arabic, Klingon, -insert_your_language here-, etc.?:
Sure. Make sure it meets Acceptable Use Policy and Publishing guidelines of this forum. Remember, if you publish it in English, many more will benefit from it. On a personal note, considering that I do not understand any of those languages, sending me stuff in any language other than English would be a waste of Internet bandwidth. Sorry. Would it be possible for you to consider asking one of your friends to translate your masterpiece in English for you?
What if I do not agree to these terms?:
Too bad! If you do not agree to our policies/terms, your sole remedy is to discontinue participating at this forum.
